About PCTools
Free tools, honest advice. PCTools publishes free diagnostic scripts, fix-it guides and reviews of the best free apps for Windows, Mac and Linux.
What this site is
PCTools is a free resource for people who need to fix, speed up or maintain their computer. We publish small diagnostic scripts you can run in minutes, step-by-step guides that explain what the results mean, and reviews of the best free apps for everyday use. Nothing is sponsored, and every recommendation is one we would install ourselves.
Why free?
Most PC problems can be diagnosed with tools that already exist — you just need to know which ones to run and how to read the output. We write those tools, test them on real machines, and show you exactly what they produce so you know what to expect before you run them.
How we pick what to list
- It solves a real problem people actually have.
- It is free to use, with no hidden costs or trials.
- We test it ourselves and can explain what it does and does not do.
- It is safe — nothing that installs bundled software or phones home.
What we will never do
- No paid placement, no sponsored listings, no selling links.
- No fake reviews — if a program has weaknesses, we say so.
- No bundled installers or re-hosted files — we link to official sources only.
Licences
Our scripts are published under the MIT licence — free to download, read, modify and share. Recommended third-party software remains under its own licence, owned by its respective projects.
